Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil/High Atlas Mountains – Tizi n’ Tamatert pass (2279m) – Imnan Tachdirt Village.

You will leave Marrakech after breakfast and drive to Imlil. This is where you will meet your guide and mule team for the two-day trek. Once all your gear is loaded you will begin walking up winding mule tracks to the Tizi n’ Tamatert pass (2279m) to enjoy the amazing panorama of the surrounding Atlas Mountain ranges. You will have your picnic lunch on the Tizi ‘n Tamatert pass, overlooking Jbel Oukaimeden (3200m) and the beautiful encircled plateau. After lunch, you will set off following the path down to Imnane Valley where you will spend the night in a local Berber Gite. Approx. 4 hours walking.

Day 2: Imnan Tachdirt Village – Aguersioual Imlil

After breakfast, you set off down the Assif Imnane Valley passing through several Berber villages and then up to the Tizi ‘n Ageursiwal (2000m). Then on down more winding mule tracks leading to the village of Aguersioual (1600m). Here you will have your lunch before returning to Imlil. Approx. 6 hours walking night at imlil Dar Imperial.

Day 3: Imlil – Ait Benhaddou Kasbah Ouarzazate Film Studios – Dades Valley

You will be picked up from your accommodation in Imlil at 9.00 am and head out over the Atlas Mountains, driving over the stunning Tizi-n-Tichka mountain pass. You’ll pass through lots of Berber villages, and once you’re in the desert, you’ll see riverside oases and barren hillsides dotted with kasbahs (fortified dwellings that house families and their livestock). Along the way, you will have the option either to take a break and visit the Ouarzazate Film Studios. A side trip is possible to Ait Benhaddou. This is an ancient fortified city containing countless kasbahs and has been the atmospheric subject of numerous Hollywood movies (The Mummy, Gladiator, Alexander, Lawrence of Arabia…) You will have the chance to walk around the buildings and explore with your guide. Once you reach Dades Gorge, you have the option of going for a hike ( this will depend on the season as this may not be possible in winter due to short days) or relaxing at your hotel. Overnight in Dades. (Total driving time 7hours).

Day 4: Dades Valley – Todra gorge – Merzouga

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from the Dades Valley to Todra Gorge – a massive fault dividing the High Atlas mountains, rising up 300 meters in a narrow valley with palm grove and Berber villages. Here, you can go for a hike to explore the palmery, a green oasis full of large date palms. After lunch, you’ll head further into the desert to the gateway town of Merzouga to pick up supplies for your desert trip. You will then drive on to a kasbah to pick up your camel. At sunset, you’ll trek for an hour by camel to a Berber camp where you will enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, and sleep under the stars ( summer) or in tents at a desert camp. (Total driving time 6hours )

Day 5: Merzouga – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

Wake up early, just prior to sunrise, we have a 1h camel ride at sunrise to explore the area further and we head back to Merzouga on our Camels. 1. Fabio

Highly recommend this trip. A really varied trip showing the best that Morocco has to offer. Marrakech is very manic and a bit ‘in your face’ but thanks to an excellent tour leader and local guide the group were able to find our way to such hidden gems as the Majorelle Gardens (Yves St Laurent’s former gardens) and the ‘Secret’ Garden. The trip up to the Atlas Mountains and stay in Douar Samra was nothing short of magical, I got to stay in the Tree House while others stayed in the very unusual and individual rooms in the house or annex. Meals were a delight thanks to the marvellous cooking of Rashida the resident cook and the atmospheric use of candles (there is no electricity in the main house) and traditional low level seating and tables. Your luggage is transported the final distance by donkey and there are also all vegetables are grown in the Douar’s vegetable garden. Fabulous views and sunsets and great walking in the mountains. However the gem is absolutely Essaouira. I had never heard of this place before but it is the most delightful and fascinating seaside town. Again great orientation tour from local guide hamid and plenty of time to enjoy the shopping, sweeping sandy beach, bars, restaurants and busy exciting fishing harbour. Our leader, Abdul, was very informative and accommodating and great fun. Morocco is well worth a visit and I will be back!

5 days trips in Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert tours,
Private family trip. Very good driver, careful and rules-abiding, very polite and friendly. Thanks Hamid Long trip but breathtaking landscapes

  3. Foseta

My mom and I had an amazing memorable, joyful 7 days in Morocco.
We drove around Morocco to among other Imlil Atlas Mountains, Ait ben-Haddou, Quarzazate, Dades Gorges, Sahara and Marrakesh. We spent many hours in the car but it was worth every minute.
During our trip we had some amazing guides. The trek in Imlil with our sweet guide, Lahcen, was breathtaking.
And we had an interesting, instructive tour in Marrakesh with Hamid,

Especially we had the most amazing time with our driver Abde. He took us to the most incredible spots due our drive, and we felt very safe and comfortable with him.

We are definitely coming back to Morocco????
